About the Documentary

CHAMPIONS OF THE GOLDEN VALLEY is an award-winning documentary that chronicles the emergence of a homegrown ski culture in the snow-capped mountains of Afghanistan. Through stunning cinematography, the film offers viewers a rare glimpse into a remote region where joy, resilience, and a sense of community are fostered on the slopes.

The Heart of the Story

Central to the narrative is Alishah Farhang, a former Winter Olympic hopeful. Once driven by his dream to become the first athlete to represent Afghanistan in alpine skiing, Alishah’s journey evolves into a mission to share his love for the sport with his homeland. Despite limited resources—relying on handmade wooden skis and secondhand gear—young athletes from rival villages unite to compete in a unique ski mountaineering race. This inspiring event serves as a powerful catalyst for unity and hope, demonstrating the sport’s ability to bridge deep divides.

Enduring Spirit Amidst Change

When unforeseen challenges disrupt their world, Alishah and his fellow athletes draw upon the invaluable lessons they have learned on the slopes. Their unwavering spirit and resilience showcase the transformative power of sport within their community.
